When I was growing up I was always open to making new friends and learning different things. I did not know what I liked and I never seemed to stick with one thing. Making friends brought me great joy and so did absorbing other peoples interests. Throughout the beginning of high school I still was struggling to find a place where I could truly be myself. I learned that sometimes the people that I think are my friends are not the most loyal people, and that I do not need to fit in with certain people to feel good about myself. Not saying that I try fitting in but it is hard to find the right core group of people you can be yourself around. Just this past year I have taught myself that sometimes I have to separate myself from everyone else and find what truly makes me happy. I did, and then I found people who are genuine and caring which makes me feel like I have learned to be a better and more humble person. One thing that really made an impact was seeing how my friends treat others around them. Nothing is more important than being around people who put you in a safe and loving place. My friends have taught me how to be comfortable and true to myself which is something not everyone has learned to cope with yet, but it comes with the right timing and atmosphere.
Many things come with age, we all have gone through different stages and phases in our life, it is all about finding ourselves. I have gone through the tomboy stage, the awkward stage, and very many different friends phases. All of which I can't say enjoyed but it made me the person I am today.

Serving Up Some TechniquesI grew up in the family restaurant business, my parents have owned two Coney Islands. I have learned many things from being around my parents and their job. Some of those things would be learning how to cook food and talking with customers which improves my social skills. Working at the restaurant has been my job since I was around 10 years old. I washed dishes and bused tables for a while but then I decided to try something different. Being a waitress was the next step for me. Talking with people was not a problem for me, it was more studying the menu and learning how to work the computers. Studying the menu was the same as studying any other subject in school, I would reread the menu for 30 minutes everyday to memorize what side dishes came with what dinners, how many different types of toasts my restaurant serves, and so on.. I've learned that there are more than 5 different ways an egg can be cooked.. How cool! After memorizing the menu the computer was the next step, it was difficult at first, but it was buying a new phone. I had to play around with it a couple times to get the hang of it. I have been a waitress for a few months now and since I have taught myself the foods and prices and computer it is a piece of cake job!
